Labeled as the “greatest ballet of its time”, Giselle was adapted from Heinrich Heine's De l'Allemagne and Victor Hugo's poem "Fantômes" from his collection of poems Les Orientales.

Giselle’s libretto was written by the prolific French librettist Théophile Gautier (1811 – 1872) along with Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges (1799 – 1875) while its music was composed by Adolphe Adam (1803 – 1856), the renowned French composer and music critic.

This musical masterpiece’s world premiere took place on June 28th, 1841 at the famous Parisian theater Salle Le Peletier and until today, it remains a staple of the operatic repertoire.

Giselle’s performance at Palais Garnier is conducted by Koen Kessels. It lasts approximately 2 hours and 5 minutes and includes one break.
